If you fantasize about living in a converted barn, owning your own vineyard or taking pleasure in the tranquillity of country living, Vintage Ridge can make it all your reality.

Virginia’s many vineyards are gaining international recognition from such respected wine experts as Bruce Schoenfeld, wine editor for Travel & Leisure magazine, which named the state one of the five hottest new wine travel destinations in the world. Now Vintage Ridge, a well-respected winery in business since 2000, is on the market for $3,750,000.

Vintage Ridge, located an hour from the District at 8517 Maidstone Road in Delaplane, Va., rests on 44 acres with forests, meadows and views of the Blue Ridge mountain range. Seven acres of the land is devoted to the vineyard, which produces approximately 1,200 cases of wine each year. All of the winery’s equipment and inventory is included in the sale.

Vintage Ridge has earned a reputation as one of the most relaxing wineries to visit, where guests can unwind at a table in the tasting room or on the outdoor pavilion. Two weekends each month, visitors can enjoy special food pairings with their wine tasting. The wine barrels, most of which are oak barrels imported from France, are located in the tasting room rather than in a production facility, where most wineries keep them.

In addition to the winery, the grounds of Vintage Ridge include a charming log cabin near the entrance that can function as a guesthouse or a rental property. The rustic-looking cabin, rebuilt in 2011 with reclaimed wood, includes a new kitchen, a bedroom and a bath.

Behind the Vintage Ridge land, adding to the picturesque atmosphere of the property, are train tracks built before the Civil War. Guests can relax on the grounds and watch the distant Norfolk Southern train pass by and perhaps hear the romantic notes of the train whistle.

While the winery and grounds are interesting enough on their own, the owners of Vintage Ridge also have created a unique residence. In the 1980s, previous owners transported three barns from New Hampshire that became the basis for the existing home.

The current owners worked with an architect and interior designer in 2008 to renovate the structure into a modern living space that honors the historic flavor of the barns. Reclaimed pine floors and post-and-beam construction allow for an open floor plan and an intimate connection between the inside of the home and the sweeping views outside.

Surrounding the home are three open porches, a screened porch and a flagstone patio with a swimming pool. Low stone walls surround the pool’s patio and match the stone edging inside the pool. The residence also has a clay tennis court and a vegetable garden, along with views of the vines, meadows, forests and mountains.

The home’s glass front door opens from the front porch into the foyer, which has a few steps down to the open living room and dining room. These two rooms have three sets of French doors that open onto the rear porch. At one end of the living room is a stone fireplace.

The upper-level loft wraps around most of the living and dining room, providing a perfect space for musicians to play when the owners entertain or for readers to retreat with a book.

Adjacent to the living room and resting between two porches is a sunroom with tile flooring. A screened porch is accessible through French doors from the dining room, which also opens into the side porch.

The owners remodeled the kitchen with upgraded stainless steel appliances, white cabinets, white tile walls, black granite counters and pops of red-painted accents. The center island has plenty of space for seating. Nearby are a laundry room and several closets. This level also has a powder room.

On the opposite side of the home, the master suite includes a stone fireplace, a beamed ceiling and a nook with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in the bedroom. The suite also includes a separate den or home office and a room-size walk-in closet with organizers and a granite-topped island storage unit.

The luxurious master bath has travertine flooring, a walk-in shower with a glass door and a corner whirlpool tub.

Upstairs, in addition to the open loft, is a library with a door to a guest bedroom with a walk-in closet. A full bath is nearby. On the opposite side of the open living room is a third bedroom with an adjacent full bath.
